Wanted to let you know that Dottie is doing great. She was of course a little nervous at first but took right to staying by our sides. She walks great on the leash and seems to like the yard. I noticed the second day she had taken to the kids and was less nervous about a new strange or loud noise.
Dottie had a "trial by fire" when we had 5 children in the house the first evening loving on her and getting to know her. But she did great and now she likes all the neighborhood kids and does not mind them coming to her and petting her at all.
The first night she went right into her crate and was quiet all night long. Not a peep. That was great! She also does not beg at the table. Once we tell her "No" one time she goes off and lays in the other room till we are done. Wonderful.
We took her to a large field the next day and let her off leash. She ran some and laid in the grass and really enjoyed it.
The funniest thing she did was chew on a rawhide bone for an hour and then when we went outside she took it with her and carried it around the yard for the longest time then... she BURIED it! I never actually saw a dog do that. I loved it. In the house she tried to bury one in the plant and then ended up burying it in the couch cushions. Too funny.
Each day I see she has relaxed more and seems more at home. Except it was weird this morning when Rodney came down in his business-casual work clothes she did not like it at all. She was very wary of him and stayed away from him. We wondered if someone in work clothes or shoes had hurt her in the past. She was THAT nervous around him. I am sure she will get used to it though.
Thanks for advocating for us to get Dottie, we are very happy with her!
