Second Chance Rescues 200 Dogs in 2016! (And sends 298 cats home, too!)

Second Chance Pet Adoptions had a fabulous 2016:

We sent over 450 animals to their forever homes;

We added a new staff position and a new staff member;

We enhanced our Evening of Pawsibilities auction with mobile bidding (and a photo booth!) and our Art to the Rescue auction with online bidding;

We raised over $20,000 with our Racing for Rescues 5K, our most successful race yet (save the date: the 2017 event is May 7!);

We launched our corporate sponsorship program and secured the reliable support provided by four sponsors (Dogtopia of Raleigh, Care First Animal Hospital, BottleMixx, and Triangle Law Group);

Last month, we received a Petco Foundation grant to install bigger and better kitty condos at the Center in 2017;

We returned to our favorite places for events (like Raleigh Brewing Company) and forged new connections (like with Bottle Revolution) for fun and fantastic fundraisers that we look forward to repeating in 2017!

On the eve of our 30th birthday, we are so proud of how far we have come and so thankful to all of you who have made it possible! We are excited for the year to come and can’t wait to share our plans with you…but we can only make 2017 our best year yet with your help!

If you invest in Second Chance by midnight tonight, you can write off your donation on your 2016 taxes! It’s a win-win situation for you and the homeless animals you will help to rescue! Don’t delay–donate today!

Welcome Home Arwen Gigi

Third Time’s the Charm for Arwen: One Cat’s Adoption Story

2016 IS GOING OUT WITH A BANG! Have you heard the good news?

You know her. You love her. The star of our #MondaysWithArwen series has been ADOPTED! That’s right–Arwen was home for the holidays this year!

Born in July of 2008, Arwen came to Second Chance in August of that year as a kitten after she, her littermates, and her mother were left behind by a family. By December, she was home with a family…but it didn’t last. In January of 2009, Arwen was returned to Second Chance–declawed–under the suspicion of having ringworm.

She stayed with us until June of that year, when she went home with a family who took great care of her for four years…but they couldn’t figure out why she was having unexplained medical issues. Frustrated and considering euthanization, they made the difficult decision to return Arwen in August of 2013. We determined that she was suffering from terrible allergies and that, if she ate prescription food and used unscented litter made from old newspaper, she would feel better–and thrive.

For over three years, Second Chance spent thousands of dollars to provide Arwen with the special food and litter she needed. We moved her into the staff office so she could spend more time with people, and she enjoyed watching the birds from her tower by the window. Then, just this very month, it happened: she met a family who fell in love with her. They committed to caring for her knowing she had special needs, and in the short time they have had Arwen in their home, they’ve sent us many photos that show just how much they’re enjoying this special girl…and just how much Arwen is enjoying them (and their home)!

Our rescue is named for giving animals a second chance, but as Arwen would tell you if she could, sometimes, an animal needs even a third chance–and we will be there for them. But we cannot do it without you. Next year, over 400 homeless and abandoned animals will come through Second Chance and find their forever homes, thanks to you! If you partner with us and invest in Second Chance before midnight on December 31, your gift will be tax-deductible for 2016. This is a win-win situation if you act TODAY! Many more cats like Arwen are counting on you! Don’t delay–donate today!

Santa Visits Second Chance…And Needs Your Help!

Hello! Santa here!

lisa-and-santa

I stopped by Second Chance Pet Adoptions today to bring a gift and check on the “Love Keeps Us Warm” campaign!

Displaying Along with Winston and Wilson–two feline brothers saved by Second Chance in 2016 after they were found in a heap of garbage–I’ve got my eye on the Second Chance “Love Keeps Us Warm” campaign! Like I always say, “Ho ho ho! Snow may fall and winds may blow, but love keeps us warm!”

Thanks to you, Winston and Wilson are warm this winter with their human, Zach; their canine brother, Carter; and the rest of their forever family… but there are many more animals who will be out in the cold this winter, waiting–and wishing!–for their second chance. I am in the business of granting holiday wishes,but I can’t do it without my elves! Many of you elves have gotten Second Chance to 88% of their goal (wow!)–but I need all of you elves to reach 100% for the sweet cats and pups counting on us!

Can you help me grant their holiday wish in the next three days? I’m running out of time! Please hurry, sweet elf!

Love,

Santa
