  • Racing for Rescues 5K/Walk
    8:30 am-11:30 am
    05/07/2023
511 Scott King Rd, Durham, NC 27713

The Second Chance Pet Adoptions Racing for Rescues event is back! Join us Sunday, May 7 at C.M. Herndon Park for an American Tobacco Trail timed 5K race and fun walk. The event features a 5K without dogs, a 5K with dogs, and a leisurely dog-inclusive walk. Enjoy the raffle (need not be present or even registered to win), fundraising competition, vendor village (with complimentary snacks/beverages), a DJ, and meeting our adoptable dogs. It’s a fun way to help save a life, and the event t-shirt will always remind you of this fundraiser!

Want to participate virtually/remotely? You, too, can register to get that event t-shirt and compare your 5K timing, and the raffle and fundraising prizes can still be yours!

    Registration is open right HERE!

  • Bark in the Park
    5:35 pm-9:35 pm
    05/17/2023
409 Blackwell St, Durham, NC 27701, USA
    Bark in the Park

Bark in the Park is back! Bring your best four-legged friend to enjoy the Durham Bulls baseball game with you–tickets for the 2023 season are on sale now! The sale of each dog ticket is donated by the Bulls to the animals here at Second Chance, so it’s a great time for a great cause!

The 2023 dates are April 13, May 17, June 15, July 5, August 10, and September 13. To get tickets for you and your dog, click HERE. You must purchase tickets in sections 128, 130, 132, or 134, or tickets on the lawn, and you must purchase a ticket for your dog.

As usual, Second Chance volunteers will be ready and excited to “pet sit” your pup while you grab food/drinks or use the bathroom or access parts of the stadium where non-service dogs are not allowed.

We can’t wait to enjoy America’s pastime with your and your pup!

Bark in the Park is generously sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka!

    MAY 2023 UPDATE:

Please note that there have been confirmed cases of canine influenza in Durham. Canine flu can develop into a serious, even fatal, illness.

Pet parents should consider whether this event is safe for their pets; while some dogs have been vaccinated against canine flu (which can decrease the severity of symptoms), flu shots are not yet part of most dogs’ standard shot routines.

Dogs attending this event can become ill after: interacting with other dogs; drinking from the same water bowl; being pet by someone who has pet an infected dog; and more. If you are concerned about this illness, you might consider waiting until a future game (when cases may have subsided), asking others not to pet your dog, and/or bringing your own water bowl (you can get as many free refills as you’d like at the Second Chance tent); you might also ask your vet if the flu shot is a good idea for your dog.

  • City BBQ Fundraiser
    11:00 am-8:00 pm
    05/27/2023
4122 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607

On Saturday, May 27, the delicious and generous City Barbeque (4122 Lake Boone Trail) is donating back 20% of dine-in, takeout, delivery, drive-thru, and pick-up orders to support a great cause — the animals at Second Chance Pet Adoptions! They’re open from 11:00 to 8:00.

We ask that you RSVP here: www.groupraise.com/events/249100 (even if you’re not completely sure) so City Barbeque knows roughly how many orders to expect and so you have access to all the event details. (If you RSVP and can’t place an order after all, no harm done!) PLEASE ALSO see that link for instructions about HOW to let them know you’re supporting animals (we don’t receive proceeds on orders that don’t mention us or use the online ordering code).
