  • Racing for Rescues 5K/Walk

    8:30 am-11:30 am
    05/01/2022

The Second Chance Pet Adoptions Racing for Rescues event is back! Join us Sunday, May 1 at Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh for a timed 5K for runners without dogs, a timed 5K for runners with dogs, and a walking course (pups welcome!). Enjoy the raffle ($750 in gift cards up for grabs!), fundraising competition (Target and Diamond Direct gift cards, plus free 2023 registration, on the line!), vendor village (with complimentary snacks/beverages), a DJ, and meeting our adoptable dogs. It’s a fun way to help save a life, and the event t-shirt (included in your registration until April 10 and available for purchase after that) will always remind you of this fundraiser!

Want to participate virtually/remotely? You, too, can register to get that event t-shirt and compare your 5K timing, and the raffle and fundraising prizes can still be yours!

See all the details and register HERE!

  • LIVE Stream from Racing for Rescues

Can’t make it to Racing for Rescues but hate to miss out on the fun? We’ll be streaming LIVE on Facebook from Dorothea Dix Park on Sunday morning, May 1! Though the 5K race/fun walk event itself is several hours long, we’ll only be going live from 8:50 to 9:30 a.m. Eastern, so brew your morning coffee and tune in to see just a few minutes of plaza activity and then to meet all of the adoptable dogs we’re bringing with us! You might just find your new furry family member, but even if you’re not looking to adopt right now, you’ll love seeing the furry friends who benefit from Racing for Rescues registration fees, raffle ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships! If only we could bring our kitties, too…

  • Dog Wash Fundraiser

    11:00 am-3:00 pm
    05/21/2022
    Unleashed – Creedmoor
7408 Creedmoor Road Raleigh, NC 27613
    https://www.secondchancenc.org/dog-wash-sign-up/

Bring your dog to Unleashed and Second Chance volunteers will bathe your pup for you! Spare you knees, back, and bathroom by making a contribution to Second Chance (recommended $10 per dog) so more stray and abandoned cats and dogs can get their second chances to find love. Cash, check, and credit card are all accepted on-site; your dog can get a bath as a walk-in or you can make an appointment via our website.

Dog washes are the third Saturday of each month, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in January and February, and from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in March through December.

We strongly encourage you to make an appointment–doing so will reduce or eliminate your wait time and you can even pre-pay for greater convenience if you’d like. To schedule a wash, click HERE. The reservation system opens at 12:00 noon on the first day of each month and closes at 11:00 a.m. the day before the wash or when all appointments are booked, whichever comes first. We will always have room for walk-ins.

Our volunteers will follow any COVID-related protocols in place at the time, whether the precautions are set by Wake County, the City of Raleigh, Unleashed, or Second Chance. We encourage dog wash customers to do the same. If you have any questions about the protocols in place at the time of your scheduled wash or the dog wash itself, please contact us at Rachel@SecondChanceNC.org.

    Paint Your Pet Portrait Fundraiser

Paint your pet portrait today and make a difference for animals in need (25% of the proceeds will be donated to the animals of Second Chance Pet Adoptions)! The professional staff at Wine & Design will guide you through the steps to create your masterpiece. You get to choose the size of your portrait and whether you want to paint in the studio or at home. For in-studio painters, you’ll be guided through your painting by the staff at Wine & Design in-person–feel free to bring any snacks or beverages you’d like to enjoy while painting (alcohol allowed; they have bottle openers). If you choose to paint your pet portrait at home, you’ll get a “paint at home” kit with supplies and written instructions (there is no online stream to follow along with).

It’s truly easy even for those who have never painted before:

    1. Complete registration with payment to secure your seat or at-home kit.
    2. Submit a photo of your pet by May 18 for them to place an outline of on the canvas for you. Headshots of pets work great!
    3. Follow the instructions of the teacher or those that came with your take-home kit and watch the masterpiece come to life!
