Second Chance Pet Adoptions
*** NOTE *** WE ARE LOCATED IN RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA ***
Thank you for your interest in fostering a dog for Second Chance! We sincerely appreciate it. Since Second Chance does not have any permanent dog facilities, volunteer foster homes provide the necessary shelter for all our rescued dogs. Without foster homes, there is no way we could save the number of dogs we do.
At Second Chance, we have two kinds of foster homes: transport fosters and local program fosters. Fosters for our local program dogs (dogs who will be adopted here in NC) are asked to house their foster dog until s/he is adopted. Fosters in our transport program, however, are asked to house their foster dog until s/he makes the journey to our partner rescue up north (where s/he will ultimately find a forever home); this is almost always a short stint between 10 and 20 days.
We try to make the foster process as easy as possible at Second Chance. We pay for the dog’s needs: we provide their food, monthly heartworm and flea prevention, and other supplies (treats, toys, crates, etc.), along with all pre-approved medical care (vaccines, spay/neuter, deworming, sick visits, and so on). All we ask is that you provide basic care like clean water, shelter, and, of course, lots of love!
Many fosters worry about the day their “babies” leave for a new home. While adoption day can certainly be difficult, it’s also rewarding to know that by helping your dog find a permanent home, you’re allowing for others to be saved. The emotional reward is part of what makes all the effort worthwhile.

If you are interested in learning more about fostering or are ready to foster, please fill out the Canine Foster Home Application and our New Foster Home Coordinator will be in touch with you shortly. If you do not receive a confirmation email, your application may not have been submitted successfully. Thank you!
