Second Chance Pet Adoptions Receives Grant from ASPCA Ahead of #SubaruLovesPets Event

The $3,800 award will cover the cost of preparing 9 dogs for adoption before Pups, Pints, and Play.

Raleigh, NC (October 1, 2023) – Second Chance Pet Adoptions will be at Waverly Place (Cary, NC) on Saturday, October 7, to celebrate #SubaruLovesPets month with adoptable dogs. In partnership with Johnson Subaru of Cary, the Pups, Pints, and Play event (12:00 – 4:00) features wine and beer, live music, a Halloween costume contest for dogs, vendors, raffles, and dogs hoping to find their forever families.

The adoptable dogs in attendance have been supported by a grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASCPA), awarded to Second Chance this fall. Prior to adoption, the rescue organization ensures each dog is spayed/neutered, tested and treated for diseases and parasites, vaccinated, and microchipped. On average, these standards of care cost Second Chance $420 per dog, less than the adoption fee charged per dog. The grant from the ASCPA graciously enables Second Chance to not only help the nine dogs attending the event, but also to use their funding on an additional nine dogs who need rescue, saving more lives.

“The ASPCA and Second Chance Pet Adoptions share the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans,” says Lisa Imhof, Second Chance’s Senior Director of Operations. “We are thrilled that the nine dogs helped by the grant—dogs who were rescued as strays, or born into homelessness, or surrendered by the owners they trusted to care for them forever—will know the reality of kind and respectful treatment from the staff and volunteers at Second Chance, bolstered by the support we’re receiving from our partner in rescue, the ASPCA.”

Interested adopters can meet these dogs at the Waverly Place shopping center (302 Colonades Way, Cary, NC 27518) at the event; more information can be found at https://www.secondchancenc.org/event/pups-pints-play-waverly-oct-2023/2023-10-07/ and dogs’ adoption profiles can be found at https://www.secondchancenc.org/adopt-a-pet/.
